I’m very excited to serve as the W+AM Alumni Ambassador again this year and wanted to share some dates and survey links. For those short on time, I’ve enumerated these items here and put details below.<br><br>1. Follow us on social media (LINK)<br><br><br><u><br></u>1. <u><b>Job Market Partnership and Mentorship Programs</b></u> Being on the job market can be incredibly difficult. From the vague statement prompts to the awkwardness of talking about yourself, it can be difficult to create and refine materials. That is why we will be introducing two mentorship programs this year. These programs are designed for multiple levels of career advancement, so whether you are trying to get your first job or your fourth we encourage you to join. <br><br><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>The <u>peer partnership program</u> will match you up with another W+AM alumni currently on the job market, likely in a similar career stage as you. You will be expected to exchange materials and to “meet" at least once preferably before November 15. These meetings can be over zoom, in person, or even via email, whatever works best for your partnership. Swapping materials with peers will allow you to catch mistakes, compare notes, and share advice given to you by other mentors. The goal is that this will be a flexible level of commitment determined by you and your partner. To sign up for either program as a mentee, please complete this <a href="https://forms.gle/YQoX6SrgGJDbsGYi8">survey</a> by end of day Friday 10/4 to be matched by 10/6. (My hope is that those who are applying for the NSF Postdoc will be able to be matched before the due date on 10/16.) If you forget and would like to join later, please email me upon completing the survey. <br><br><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>The <u>mentorship program</u> will look more like traditional mentorship with the same flexible commitment as the peer partnership program. We are asking alumni who are in postdocs, teaching positions, tenure track, etc. to serve as mentors for people currently on the job market. (Especially if you have experience serving on job search committees.) My aim in this is to hopefully have as many mentors as we have mentees to make the commitment as minimal as possible. That said, I’ve included a question in the survey about how much time you’ll be able to commit to allow everyone to participate even if you can only spare one hour. To sign up, please complete this <a href="https://forms.gle/ckak8Mgprn9MHZEy6">survey</a> by end of day October 4 and I will send out matches by October 6. <br><br><br>2. <u style="font-weight: bold;">JMM Coffee Meet-up</u> W+AM will be hosting an informal coffee hour at JMM 2025 in Seattle on <u>Thursday, January 9 from 1-2PM</u>. We hope that this will provide a place to reconnect with alumni and to expand your network all while providing a much needed afternoon coffee break. More details about specific room location will be provided, but for now we are looking to get an estimate of attendance to ensure we have plenty of snacks and coffee. If you’re interested please fill out this very brief <a href="https://forms.gle/VfqjgXDkV4pJx75z7">survey</a>.<br><br>3. <u style="font-weight: bold;">Zoom Game Night</u> In order to connect the W+AM Alumni Network, we will have Fall and Spring Zoom meetings. To make this a bit more interesting than a zoom happy hour, this quarter our Zoom meeting will take on the form of a game of catchphrase! I know fall can be an especially busy time of year, but hope you’ll be able to join on Wednesday November 8, starting at 7PM Eastern Time<br><br>4.<u style="font-weight: bold;"> Social Media Links</u> We will be sharing reminders and announcements to the new W+AM Alumni Instagram page (@wam_alumni) and corresponding Facebook page. This will also provide a space for us to share things that other W+AM alumni are doing (e.g. planning conferences, holding JMM sessions, etc) so if you have something that you want shared send me an email.<br><br><br><br>That’s all for now!
