SPEAKER: Amin Saberi, Stanford University

TITLE:   Approximating Traveling Salesman Problems using Algebraic 
Techniques

ABSTRACT:   I will give an overview of the recent progress in our 
understanding of traveling salesman problems as well as an introduction 
to the underlying algebraic techniques. In particular, I will talk about 
real-stable polynomials and their new and exciting applications in 
design and analysis of approximation algorithms.

BIO:   Amin Saberi is an Associate Professor and 3COM faculty scholar in 
Stanford University. He received his B.Sc. from Sharif University of 
Technology and his Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology in 
Computer Science. His research interests include algorithms, social 
network analysis, and applications. He is a recipient of the Terman 
Fellowship, Alfred Sloan Fellowship and a number of best paper awards.
