Hi all, I am teaching a graduate seminar that might be of interest to
some of you.
(The time slot is less than ideal but we couldn't find anything better.)

COS 598A, Mathematical Techniques for Natural Algorithms,
Friday 1:30-4:20 (Rm 401, COS Building)

This seminar will try to answer the following question:
Are there tools specific to the field of algorithms
that might be useful in trying to understand the emergence
of collective behavior. The seminar will review
classical tools from dynamics and statistical mechanics,
and discuss how they can be supplemented with
algorithmic techniques. The larger question is this: Besides providing
tools for numerical simulations and "Big Data," does computer science have
anything conceptual to say about complex systems?
The objective of this seminar is to find out.
