To the Institute Community:

After an exceptional week, I welcome you back to the Institute and hope you, your family, and your home are fine. The Institute campus and the Princeton area were greatly affected by Hurricane Sandy, one of the worst storms the region has ever experienced. As the Institute and the surrounding community continue to address its damaging effects, I am relieved that power has been restored to Member housing and to the academic buildings on campus. We hope that soon everyone has power restored to their homes off campus and that life can slowly begin to transition back to normal.

I realize that this past week has been a significant and unexpected hardship for many of you. None of us were prepared for a calamity of this order. We are doing all we can to minimize any disruption to your work, your families, and to life on campus. We will investigate carefully the impact of the storm on the IAS facilities and related functions in order to maintain and strengthen our preparation for inclement weather moving forward. We will be communicating in the near future to solicit your feedback about your experience in the storm and your ideas about how the Institute can best prepare for these extreme circumstances.
